Our ancestors often said, "Always keep your claws and fangs sharp."
To me, this means being prepared so you don’t miss an opportunity, because you never know when or how it might come.
But I believe that fate has a bit of a playful side, often presenting us with challenges that seem impossible.
Whether we see these as opportunities or trials is up to us. How we feel about them depends on how prepared we have been.
Today, I met with a client. They want me to paint a mural on the wall of their condominium.
I've never been particularly interested in painting murals. I wanted to focus more on perfecting my watercolor technique, and I’ve had other work, markets to attend, and other preparations, so I never really had the time. But the main reason was a lack of confidence.
I didn’t think I had the skills, and I worried about what would happen if I failed.
But now, I feel ready. I have more time on my hands, and I’m eager to face new challenges with a positive mindset.
So, I will create my first mural in Canada, with plans to start next spring. I’ll share an update once it’s done.
Time to sharpen my claws and fangs once again!

チャンスか試練か
先人達はよく言った、”日頃から爪と牙を研いでおきなさい”と。
俺の解釈だと、いつ何時、どのような形でチャンスが来るか分からないからそのチャンスを逃さないように準備しないさいって事だと思ってる。
でも神様って少し意地悪だから、出来るか分からないような試練を与えてくるんだよね。
それをチャンスと捉えるか試練と捉えるかは自分次第。自分が今までどれだけ準備をして来たかによって気持ちの持ちようが違うと思う。
今日はお客さんと会って来ました。自分が持ってるコンドミニアムの壁に絵を描いて欲しいとのご要望。
今まで壁画を描く事にあまり興味がなかった。水彩画をもっと極めたかったし、他の仕事もしてたし、マーケットもあり、その準備などであまり時間がなかった。
でも一番の理由は自信がなかった。 俺にはそんな技量があると思えなかったし、失敗したらどうしようか考えてた。
でも、今なら出来そう。時間にも余裕が出来てきたし、気持ちが前向きにチャレンジをしたいと思っている。
だからカナダで初めて俺の壁画を描きます。来年の春に着手する予定です。出来上がったらまた報告しますね。
そういう訳で爪と牙を研ぎ直してきますか！
