Living in Whistler, I often find myself thinking about just how beautiful this world truly is.
The orange-tinged sunsets,
distant mountains blurred by mist,
the vibrant green of the forest after the rain,
the fog-shrouded mountains seen from the lakeside deck as strong winds blow,
and the faint outline of the crescent moon floating in the night sky.
But just as much as this world is beautiful, it can also be cruel and merciless. Unpredictable things happen, making you feel small and powerless, leaving you with sadness or anger that you can’t direct anywhere.
Perhaps that’s why artists strive to capture and express the beautiful moments of this world.
Art may not have any tangible impact on innovation. But humans aren’t just capable of inventing things to make life easier or creating tools to hurt others.
We also have the creative ability to express ourselves in ways that give hope to others. I believe that this potential carries immense significance.
These days, I find myself wanting to be an artist who can capture and convey this beauty.
世界は美しい
ウィスラーに住んでると本当にこの世界って美しいなと思う。
オレンジがかった夕日、
遠くの山がもやでぼやけていたり、
雨上がりの森の緑が生き生きしていたり、
強い風が吹きつけるレイクのデッキから見える霧がかった山、
夜空に浮かぶ薄っすら輪郭が見える三日月。
でもそれと同じようにこの世界は残酷で無慈悲。予想もつかないような事が起こったり、自分がちっぽけで無力に感じてしまったり、どこにもぶつける事のできない悲しさや怒りなど。
だからアーティスト達は美しい所を切り取り表現しようとするのではないかな。
アートは確かにイノベーションにはなんの意味もない。
でも人間にはただ生活を楽に過ごせるように発明したり、他人を傷つける為の道具をつくるだけの発想力があるのではなく、人に希望を与えれる表現が出来るんじゃないかな。俺はこの可能性に大きな意味があると思う。
そんなアーティストになりたいと思う今日この頃です。
